ABSA CALITZDORP PORT & WINE FESTIVAL
BIGGER AND BETTER IN 2012
18 - 20 MAY 2012

Get ready for the best wine and lifestyle festival in the Klein Karoo! Calitzdorp will be the place to be over the weekend of 18 to 20 May 2012.

The Absa Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festival is now being held annually and will be bigger and better in 2012. New programme events promise to make the festival the highlight of the festival calendar and the organising committee is extremely proud to announce that ABSA has awarded the festival a 3-year headline sponsorship contract. So come join us in Calitzdorp in celebration of our wonderful diversity of wines, local produce, fauna, flora and natural beauty – the tourism destination of choice!

HOSTS Renowned Port producers, Axe Hill, Boplaas, Calitzdorp Cellar, De Krans, Du’SwaRoo, Peter Bayly, TTT and Withoek, proudly partnered again by the ABSA group, will host the Absa Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festival. .

WHERE: Following the outstanding success of the2009 and 2011 Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festivals, the 2012 festival will again be centred at the historic Calitzdorp Railway Station, well-complimented by a full and fabulous programme of events at the various wine cellars and village venues.

We have retained many events from our previous festivals but have also included some new and exciting events.

Come and taste barrel samples of the new and unique Calitzdorp Blend - a dry red wine style made from traditional port wine cultivars which the local cellars will be launching at the Festival.  Cooking demonstrations using local port and wines will be presented by Emile Joubert and Lise Beyers.  Look and look again in disbelief at the new cooking sensation - an ostrich spit braai.  Join last years popular hosts Brian and Jo Dick and Cape Wine Academy Master Junel Vermeulen at the Cheese & Wine Celebration, which will showcase South Cape cheeses with local Port and port cultivar wines.  Relax in the late afternoon and evening with snacks and wine as you travel back into the good old days with “Stoep Stories” presented by Ollie Viljoen, Pietman Geldenhuys and Andries Vermeulen, or choose to listen to classical guitar music with your sundowner.  Don't forget the Port Dance, which this year is on Saturday evening.   Have some fun and learn about different wines as you sample various blends of dry red wine produced from traditional Port cultivars.   Local participating restuarants will be offering Mediterranean themed menus.

Do not forget our regular popular events.  Tasting the ports and wines of all the local cellars under one roof at the Station Barn - or at each individual cellar.  Join local port masters to "Unravel the Mysteries of Port” and unravel the terroir of the region with a guest geologist.   The hugely popular “Chocolate and Port / Wine Decadence” will be hosted by Belgium trained Chocolatier Marita Lamprecht and Cape Wine Academy Master Junel Vermeulen.

Check out the Youth and Local Artists Expo at the DR Church Hall and visit the art studios of Calitzdorp's wide array of talented artists.  Visit the Biodiversity Expo and learn more about our town on the Cultural/Historical Meander.  Catch the tractor taxi to various cellars, watch/play a game of boule or jukskei, or just sit back and relax in the shade of the station cliff and enjoy our selection of local musicians.  The Station venue will again host an exciting selection of quality upmarket food and lifestyle stalls.

The indulgent and lazy end to the festival with the Mediterranean style Long Table Brunch on Sunday 20 May 2012 under the trellised vines at the Station Ticket office must not be missed.

A unique jam-packed festival in the heart of the Klein Karoo – a festival of many happy returns!. Diarise the date of 18 to 20 May 2012 and join us in the gem of the Klein Karoo – Calitzdorp!
